Finding top talent for Amazon’s supply chain expansion.

I’d rather interview 50 people and not hire anyone than hire the wrong person. Jeff Bezos

Amazon needs very little introduction to potential new recruits. Just about eveyrone knows that working at Amazon is an opportunity only available to the very best. The challenge is finding people who will thrive in the Amazon environment and succeed in, what is, arguably the most rigorous screening process in the business.

Brief

Amazon asked Drayton Partners to support them in looking for top talent to grow their European supply chain. We needed to identify individuals who not only had the skills and attributes required by Amazon but, also, the aptitude to succeed during a 6-7 interview process, facing Amazon’s “bar raiser” assessors.

Drayton Partners Approach

Recruiting for Amazon requires an in-depth understanding of the Leadership Principles that are assessed against. We ensured that when we interviewed individuals we were careful to build an understanding of how candidates saw themselves against these attributes. Transparency was required. Amazon isn’t for everyone, so we spent time helping candidates establish if they would thrive in the Amazon environment.

Outcome

Amazon only offers a role if all the interviewers are in agreement that a candidate will be successful. As a result, there are a high proportion of individuals who are assessed and never make it to offer stage. Due to our ability to find the right people and then establish the cultural fit, we’re proud to have one of the best conversion records within the Amazon Supply Chain function.
