Our THINK SMARTER approach is applied to land a Supply Director for large UK General Retailer.

Drayton have carried out a number of assignments and have delivered consistently good results. The team take considerable care to really understand our business and its culture, and explore with us what would make someone successful in the role. Talent Director, General Retailer

An iconic, UK general retailer, with an operational footprint of over 2000 stores spread across the whole of the country.

The Brief

Holding a rich and successful heritage focused around value, service and innovation. The business has invested significantly in their operation and this is paying dividends in terms of strong revenue flows and enhanced margin. Drayton Partners were briefed to secure a new Supply Director for the business, sitting on their UK leadership team.

The retailer was obviously interested in assessing individuals from competitor businesses but was also keen to see people from the manufacturing/supply arena.

Drayton Partners Approach

The team generated a map of the market which focused on two key areas - retail and manufacturing. Targeting both retail experts and individuals within the manufacturing or supply arena was highly innovative, representative of this organisation's ambition and free-thinking. Target businesses included those based in the UK, mainland Europe and North America.

Drayton screening interviews were held in London where more than 20 individuals were met. The approach centred upon a comprehensive assessment of competency but also the fit with this company's relatively unique culture.

Outcome

The shortlist consisted of senior individuals with backgrounds from a mix of highly credible retailers and global FMCG manufacturers. The assessment brought forward two leading contenders, one UK-based and one in France.

The successful candidate offered an FMCG manufacturing background and had no direct retail experience. His impact in the role, and impressive assimilation in to the Executive team, has led to him now being given even greater responsibility, specifically leading the Central Operations function.
