As Prime Minster, you are the UK’s CEO. Using on-the-record quotes and questions around three key leadership attributes, we (very, very briefly) interview the candidates. Interview two, Rishi Sunak.

“My values are non-negotiable. Patriotism, fairness, hard work. We’ve had enough of division. I have spent my career bringing people together. Because that is the only way to succeed.”

Motivation – What is your key motivation in applying for this role?

“Our country faces huge challenges, the most serious for a generation, and the decisions we make today will decide whether the next generation will also have the chance of a better future.”

Prioritisation – What will you prioritise to achieve your long-term strategic goals?

“My message to the country is simple: I have a plan to steer our country through these headwinds. Once we have gripped inflation, I will get the tax burden down.”

Top-line candidate analysis:

This candidate is a polished and effective communicator with a record of delivering results, both in business and in his most recent position at the Treasury. However, there may be some concerns around motivation – does he want the job to do the job or simply to say he has done it?
