A chairperson opportunity for a sustainable footwear brand

This business is embarking on their next phase of growth, with very strong eco-credentials at the heart of how they want to grow.

Summary: Drayton are delighted to be supporting a strongly rated B-Corp business in the apparel & footwear sector with their search for a Chairperson. This privately owned business has high international growth forecasts with ambitions to continue to build the strong momentum over the next 3-5 years; with particular focus on sustainability and regeneration at the heart of the business. The appointment of a new Chair within the business will be an integral part and accelerant of the next phase of growth and will hold the Board to account for the Company’s vision & strategy, providing inclusive leadership to the Board and will ensure that each director executes their duties and responsibilities for the Company.

Key Responsibilities:

• The Chair needs to spend an hour a week with the CEO going through key actions, manage the business of the board and assists the CEO and their team with strategy development.

• The role will most likely take between 15 and 18 days a year to cover 11 boards, the publication of stakeholder reports twice a year and assistance on key strategy days.

• Ensure that the Company operates for the benefit of all stakeholders and maintain the sound financial health of the Company while maintaining B-corp commitments.

• Monitor the performance of the Board in fulfilling its duties and responsibilities for the effective management of the Company.

• Ensure that there is a clear strategic direction for the Company, that the Board is fully informed and able to regularly review major risks and opportunities, and the board can satisfy itself that it can take advantage of opportunities and mitigate risks.

• Chair meetings of the Board and bring impartiality and objectivity to the decision-making process.

• Maintain an open and supportive relationships within the board enabling each director to speak openly about concerns, worries and challenges.

• Challenge and be a sounding board for the CEO and develop & mentor the CEO and executive directors and appraise the performance of the CEO on an annual basis.

• Make recommendations to the CEO to refresh the Board incorporating the right balance of skills, knowledge and experience needed to manage and lead the Company effectively.
